It is never safe to be a social island
A remote and isolated African village |
To be socially reclusive and to be
disconnected from society is dangerous. Though you may be happy and secure in
your environment and see no internal and external threat, there are forces who
see your isolation and contentment as an opportunity to take over your land,
your possessions and your peace.
The story
extracted from the Bible
So the five men (spies) left and went to the town
of Laish. They saw how safely the people there were living, like the Sidonians.
They were a peaceful, quiet people, with no disputes with anyone; they had all
they needed. They lived far away from the Sidonians and had no dealings with
any other people... Judges 18:7
When you get
there, you will find that the people don't suspect a thing. It is a big
country; it has everything a person could want, and God has given it to you.”
Judges 10
After the men from
Dan had taken the priest and the things that Micah had made, they went and
attacked Laish, that town of peaceful, quiet people which was in the same
valley as Bethrehob. They killed the inhabitants and burnt the town. There was
no one to save them, because Laish was a long way from Sidon, and they had no
dealings with any other people. The men from Dan rebuilt the town and settled
down there. Judges 27-28
Lessons to learn...
1. Always take guard and
establish safeguards to protect your family, assets and/or wealth, whether it
be legal documentation, or people who can vouch for you and stand by you in
battle
2. Never be too content to
believe that a foreign entity or enemy shall not covet your land, your wealth,
your business or your family and seek to take it
3. History will at times
remember favourably, the bully who took over the land, the business or the
opportunity! Those taken over are forgotten and probably none of their lineage
shall ever existed again.
